Although the Kirby and Devil May Cry games appear to have little in common, they are both known for their slick mechanics and stylish presentation. Combined with the endless crossover appeal of Kirby’s power-copying and hat mechanics, it may not be a surprise to hear that one fan has created a design for Kirby with Dante’s powers.

Dante from Devil May Cry is well-known for his huge sword, near-invulnerability, and charming and playful attitude, even if the specifics change between games. Twitter user CorBond_ combined Dante’s most iconic traits with Kirby’s simple design to create a mod that gives Kirby a stylish Devil May Cry flair. The result is a round pink puffball wearing Dante’s classic mop of white hair and wielding Alastor, one of Dante’s Devil Arms from the first game.

According to the mod details, it replaces Kirby’s Sword power and accompanying hat in the Kirby and the Forgotten Land demo with Alastor and Dante’s hair, respectively. Kirby’s round shape makes it hard to tell exactly how big this replica Alastor is meant to be, but it appears to be roughly the length of Kirby’s body. As the full-sized Alastor is roughly the length of Dante’s body, this suggests that the two blades are comparable.

However, Kirby’s Alastor also seems to be generally smaller than Dante’s and continues to use the sword animations from the Kirby and the Forgotten Land demo rather than bringing in moves from Devil May Cry. This may be a good idea, as Devil May Cry’s main appeal is its stylish, high-stakes, and often incredibly difficult combat.

While Kirby and the Forgotten Land does feature a tougher difficulty setting, Wild Mode seems to take a very different approach to challenge creation than the Devil May Cry series does. This might be for the best, as what works in a spectacle fighter isn’t guaranteed to work in a 3D action platformer. Either way, gamers may find that Kirby looks adorable with Dante’s haircut.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land releases March 25, 2022, for Nintendo Switch.
