While Kirby’s copy abilities are retained and reworked to fit 3D environments, there is are also new transformations that directly alter the environment around Kirby. This includes Kirby’s new Mouthful Mode, which allows him to stretch his mouth and cover certain objects and utilize its abilities. This ranges from Kirby driving a car using his mouth to shooting cans of soda out of a vending machine. While a bunch of features will be included in the game, Nintendo has revealed another: amiibo support.

This information was posted on Nintendo’s official website, where it gave a list of amiibos that are compatible with the game. These include amiibo figures of Kirby, King Dedede, Meta Knight, and Waddle Dee from when Kirby: Star Allies was released. The Super Smash Bros. amiibos of Kirby, King Dedede and Meta Knight will also be compatible with the game and can be used to get the same rewards as the Star Allies versions.
The Japanese exclusive Qbby amiibo from the Boxboy series can also be used to earn rewards in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Whenever the player taps an amiibo on the Switch while playing the game, they’ll earn a few items. While there are no plans to release any new amiibo figures at this time, it’s possible there could be some new Kirby Amiibo figures later this year that are based on Forgotten Land.
The last major Nintendo game to use amiibo features was 2021’s Metroid Dread, which similarly provided players with additional health items to help them on their journey. It’s possible that Kirby and the Forgotten Land’s amiibo functionality will follow a same route, where it will provide players with food items that can restore Kirby’s health or provide a form of in-game currency or treasure. This functionality was used beforehand in Kirby: Star Allies, where certain amiibos would reward a player with two star points, two puzzle pieces, and a food item such as a health tomato. For now, all fans know is that their amiibo figures will serve a purpose in Kirby’s latest adventure.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land launches March 25, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
