“I know he has the adrenaline rush of success along with knowing what’s ahead here,” McGarity said.

Smart decided to retain his duties as Alabama’s defensive coordinator throughout the postseason as the Crimson Tide continue to make their run for their fourth national title in seven years.

Even though Smart is focusing on the College Football Playoff title game next Monday against Clemson, he has the support from Georgia for juggling the two jobs.

“Kirby has the ability to balance these responsibilities,” McGarity said. “There are carved out times for Georgia and obviously carved out times for Alabama. He’s been able to manage those very effectively."
