Marchand reports that Herbstreit could theoretically be the NFL analyst on another network while continuing to be one of ESPN’s college football analysts. Per Marchand’s reporting, Herbstreit is currently making more than $6 million per year with ESPN.
Calling the NFL is reportedly something Herbstreit has reportedly had interest in, according to Marchand, and he might still have the chance to do it with ESPN. Marchand reported that ESPN would still want to have Herbstreit as a possible option for NFL games, especially as it looks at having three “Monday Night Football” games on ABC starting in 2023 along with its full schedule on ESPN.

Herbstreit has been with ESPN since 1996 as a college football analyst. In recent years, he has stepped up in NFL coverage, having called a few of ESPN’s games and having become one of the draft analysts for the network since 2018 when Jon Gruden left to coach the Raiders.
