Gambhir was adjudged caught behind the wicket by umpire Nigel Llong off Dale Steyn’s bowling, but replays showed the ball had clearly missed the edge. Steyn went up in appeal immediately even as keeper Naman Ojha collected the ball, without showing any reaction.
Gambhir walked off the field infuriated, mouthing expletives all the way back to the dugout. He threw his bat and the rest of the gear on reaching the boundary, and continued his outburst even after sitting down.
“Mr. Gambhir admitted to the level 1 offence (Article 2.1.3) and accepted the sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the IPL Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the official press release stated.
