J.R. Smith's New York Knicks might have suffered a 102-91 loss to the Miami Heat, but he still managed to make history.

Because of his reputation as a gunner, this might not come as a surprise but Smith took 22 3-point attempts on Sunday, a single-game NBA record. Smith scored 32 points, shooting 11-of-28 from the field and 10-of-22 on 3-pointers.

Smith beat out former Portland Trail Blazers guard Damon Stoudemire's 21 attempts from three in a 2005 game and three players who tied at 20 shots, including current Dallas Mavericks guard Vince Carter.

This isn't the first time Smith entered the record books for shooting an inordinate amount of 3-point attempts. Three performances landed Smith among the top in 3-point attempts on five different instances.

Excluding Sunday, Smith shot 12 3-pointers in one quarter (4th) twice and 13 3-pointers in one half (2nd) three times.
