Because of those troubles, the Knicks are engaged in talks to trade guard Iman Shumpert in exchange for the Denver Nuggets' Kenneth Faried, Frank Isola of the New York Daily News reports.
Shumpert appeared in a good space in New York last season, but, according to Isola, he has fallen out of favor with Knicks coach Mike Woodson and team owner James Dolan.
With J.R. Smith, who Shumpert competed with at shooting guard, added to the starting lineup, there is the possibility that Shumper goes to the bench when Chandler returns from a broken leg.
Faried would offer better rebounding for the Knicks, but acquiring him brings a seperate set of troubles.
The Knicks have had considerable spacing issues on offense, and Faried is not a player who can slide to the outside and play stretch four. He is a workhorse with improving skill, but he's more of a guy who scores off rebounding and running the floor.
Also, if the Knicks were to make the move, they would lose an elite perimeter in Shumpert. No players on the current roster other than Chandler or Metta World Peace have a reputation for defense.
