Dolan and MSG have been in a decade-long feud with the News, so it could put the paper’s staff in a difficult position should he buy it.
The rift between the News and Dolan started when the paper backed a plan by former Mayor Mike Bloomberg to build the West Side Stadium in 2005. Dolan’s Cablevision opposed the move because the new sports venue would have competed with MSG.
There are other supposed interested buyers including the Ricketts family, who founded TD Ameritrade; real estate scion Jared Kushner, who owns the New York Observer; Variety owner Jay Penske; magnate Ron Burkle; and Bloomberg.
