Recently, Kojima was interviewed on NHK Radio as part of the “Wonderful World of Game Music” special. During the interview, the auteur made mention of a few projects that Kojima Productions has lined up. That’s according to a Japanese-based gamer, who translated some of Kojima’s words in a tweet. The projects mentioned seem to involve a AAA game “that everyone can enjoy,” as well as the desire to work on a smaller game that is not an open world or shooter. On top of that, it seems that the famous game designer is also interested in making an anime through his company.

Hideo Kojima has already hinted at two games being in the works, so this latest interview could be tied in with that. Of the two titles, one of them is likely to be a “big” game, whether that’s in terms of theme and scope, or sheer world size cannot be stated. The other he describes as a “new, challenging” game. If speculation serves, it’s possible that the big title could be tied into this universally-appealing AAA project, while the latter could have something to do with the smaller game. It’s impossible to say at this stage.
As for the anime, the tweet suggests that Kojima Productions may already be working on it, but again, as with the aforementioned and elusive games, there are no details about what it actually is. Kojima Productions has been hiring recently, with a focus on “original” and “outrageous” games, so all of this is likely to be related to this latest interview.
With Death Stranding Director’s Cut coming to PC soon, Kojima Productions is seemingly ready to move onto new projects. There’s no telling what goes on in the director’s mind, but it’s safe to say that whatever games and non-games spring forth from his team, they will almost certainly be worth talking about.
