A QR code found at PAX Aus this week confirmed the internet’s previous suspicions surrounding a poster featuring a silhouette from Tokyo Games Show earlier this year. Kojima Productions displayed the teaser, which referred to an upcoming project, with a single question: “Who am I?”

Social media immediately lit up with responses to the question: it was Elle Fanning. But despite the correct guesses, neither developer Hideo Kojima nor studio Kojima Productions responded with further information about what she was starring in, exactly.

Now that PAX Aus is underway, the new teaser shows Fanning’s face very clearly, though all we know for sure is that she’s starring in a “Hideo Kojima game”, for what it’s worth. There’s no mention of Death Stranding 2, and Kojima isn’t really talking.

Kojima did follow up with a cryptic tweet teasing a forthcoming teaser following the two previous questions “Who am I?” and “Where am I?” with “???”. This feasibly means “What am I?” and we may end up seeing a proper reveal at the upcoming The Game Awards this December, hosted by Geoff Keighley.

Is Elle Fanning Starring in Death Stranding 2?

No one has confirmed whether Elle Fanning is starring in Death Stranding 2 just yet. One thing is for certain. Kojima’s previous game, Death Stranding, should see an official announcement for the follow-up in the coming days. But that doesn’t appear to be what the teaser, featuring Fanning, is referring to at first glance.

However, the clues are there. Without spoiling Death Stranding’s late game and ending, there is a female character that it would make sense for Fanning to play if this is indeed stealth marketing for a new entry in the Death Stranding universe. There’s a very real possibility that we could see a direct follow-up to the storyline woven in the first game, albeit a time skip would be needed to match the age progression of the character we’re speaking of.

Kojima is always known for his vague and mysterious teasers. We’ll likely hear more about the game at the next big event this year, which is the aforementioned The Game Awards ceremony.
