Hyderabad, Oct 14 (PTI) India captain Virat Kohli says Umesh Yadav’s “standout performance” has made the fast bowler a strong candidate for selection in the starting XI when the side travels Down Under, next month. The four-Test series against Australia will begin in Adelaide on December 6. Yadav’s 10-wicket haul on a flat track was key in India’s 10-wicket win in the second Test against the West Indies. “I think it was a standout performance in his career and something that he can build on,” Kohli said at the post-match press conference....

His achievements have been recognised in the 2017 Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack, the editor of which Lawrence Booth describes Kohli as having enjoyed “the year of his dreams”. Kohli’s numbers make for scarcely believable reading - during 2016 he averaged 75 in Tests, 92 in one-day internationals and 106 in Twenty20s. He becomes the third Indian to be bestowed with the honour, which began in 2003, following in the footsteps of Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar....
